My first Fire and EMS Advisory Board meeting as Knotts Island Representative.

I attended my first FEAB meeting. Key takeaways are:

  1. FEAB is to allow citizens to interface better with their Fire and EMS Services. we were asked to provide a representative to sit on the board for Knotts Island. I, John S. Wunder volunteered and was accepted by the board. I have been a resident of Knotts Island since 2014 and am a Knotts Island Volunteer Fireman. I would like to hear from the residents of Knotts Island concerning their Fire and EMS service.

  2. We will be having a FEAB meeting in May of Knotts Island at the Fire Station and all are encouraged to come and participate. A meal will be provided before the meeting and I will update this page with a firm date when it is established.
  3. For the firemen reading this the County is looking to standardize their nozzles and are bringing in manufacturer TFT March 21st 9AM to test their nozzles against our hoses. Additionally the Forest Service volunteered they would do training on brush fires emphasizing clearing brush with chain saws to departments that express an interest.

Eric fire ranger...Hired new assistant County Ranger. Provide wildfire training. Chainsaw training.

What is EMS SCHEDULE plan...stay on same rotating schedule. Maps wrong. 8 weeks not long enough. Skills degrade if tour too long. Bulkhead fire station. Carova Boat ramp.

Deputy Chief

  1. New AFG(A Federal Grant?) open. Federal Grant at region level. Request for stretchers...power load stretcher.
  2. Another new grant Port security grant. Ferry soft target. Some way to respond. Boat that can respond. $150K Highest under served area. In water asset at Lily station. Coxswain qualified. 75% grant County cover 25%.
Board new business
  1. Task force tip. Standardize nozzles. March 21st. 9AM TFT. Testing nozzles on new standard hoses.

Tentative training...

  1. Moyock engine. Manufacture started out April 29th.
