Question I want to be sure is asked tonight:
Thanks again for the model.  In looking at it one scenario I was hoping to run as it was the worst flooding I've seen on the Causeway was the last weekend in July of 2018 (28th 29th). The Sheriff's Department posted a video of fish swimming on the Causeway that made local news Wavy 10 (I know you can't open links for good reason but here it is https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10155624680632036 .  You can also find it by search "fish swimming on Causeway Knotts Island" You do need Facebook to see the video I think).  When I looked at the years of the Storms covered in the model 2018 does not show. Am I missing it?  If not why was it not included as it definitely seems pertinent? —[[User:Johnny|Johnny]] ([[User talk:Johnny|talk]]) 21:42, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

On December 9th there will be a public meeting to discuss the bridge replacement on the Causeway and the the Wildlife Preserve's desire to close Corey's Ditch.

[[Analysis::I'm collecting information here in preparation for the meeting.

I heard back from NCDOT. Mr. Gallegher directed me to Mr. Abel who said

  1. The December 9th meeting is to solicit information in preparation to make a decision on how to replace the bridge.
  2. The work is planned to be done in 2026
  3. The Water Elevation Model studying the potential for flooding if Coprey's Ditch was closed indicated The majority of the modeling shows minimal impacts with the closure of the canal except for the area along the causeway. In this area, the elevations range from 0.10’ to 0.74’ with mean of .35’ depending on the storm event. The area adjacent to Knotts Island where the residents live, the modeling shows that with the canal closed the elevations range from -0.48’ to 0.38’ with a mean of 0.05’. There are instances where the closure will actually improve potential flooding issues within the community of Knotts Island but overall there is potential for slight increases in water surface elvations.
