John is an able bodied Knotts Islander with IT knowledge, communication skills and innate leadership traits that ensure the success of any project he is associated with regardless of scale.

Professional Experience Summary

From a nationwide distributed network solutions for State Farm Insurance in the late 80's to web based solutions for fleet readiness of 5th Gen Military Aircraft and UAVs John has architected efficient, effective solutions that deployed on time and within budget and are still operational today.

John is currently self-employed with a focus on 5th Generation Military Aircraft Maintenance assembling an Open Source web based tool suite for flightline maintenance.

John was a certified Lockheed Martin architect, the Chief Architect for Global Combat Support System-Air Force/Air Force Portal (GCSS-AF/AFP). As architect he fostered the use of Web Services, XML, and content standards across the Air Force for over 800,000 airmen. Just prior to leaving Lockheed Martin John demonstrated a suite of tools that enabled airmen, from the flightline, to manage their information flows for aircraft readiness (TCTOs, AFTO Form 95s and Dash-6).

John has hands-on experience across the Microsoft, Oracle, IBM and LAMPS Frameworks focused on the Web. He continues to simplify the process of end customer information control allowing effective, expeditious and efficient information management capable of keeping today’s intelligent replaceable and repairable weapons systems ready to support the mission’s OPSTEMPO.

Work Experience Summary

Enterprise Architect

Starting with Lockheed Martin IS&GS in 12/02/2006 to today John has been doing research to employ massive collaboration, open source practices and information services for government customers and commercial suppliers to optimize Performance Based Logistics across the Aerospace and Defense Industry. As of June 18, 2012 Johnny retired from Lockheed Martin but continues consultancy and research at his website

Chief Information Architect

From 1999 to 2006 Johnny was the Lockheed Martin Chief Architect on GCSS-AF/AFP for the USAF. In that time the GCSS-AF architecture was accepted as the Information Technology Enterprise Services for the whole Air Force. To field the solution John participated in weekly conversations with the Air Force CIO setting IT policy for transforming the United States Air Force. Led the integration of the Air Force Portal(AFP) across the Air Force. AFP today supports 800,000+ users. Led the definition of the common information model for the Air Force across the Operational Support architecture to include the Business, Combat Support, and Command and Control sub-enterprises.

Program Technical Lead

From 1998 to 1999 Johnny was the Lockheed Martin Technical Lead on the Financial Information Resource System (FIRST) for SAF/FM. This system is used each year to compile the Air Force yearly budget which was $74B in this timeframe.

Software Architect

From 1995 to 1998 Johnny was the overall Loral Software Architect for Dow Chemical on the Enterprise new Process Control System. Lead Dow from proprietary process control system to hybrid system with proprietary process control equipment tri-dundant but design and operator control based on commercial products. Architected three domains (Process control, design, operations) and the interfaces between them. Assured solution complied with safety standards (1 failure every 1000 years in worst case). Designed User Interface for design system that earned $750,000 bonus. From 1992 to 1995 Designed component software architectures for IBM Federal on Army and USPS programs like Common Hardware Software 2 (CHS2), battlefield digitization, Remote Computer Reader, Remote Bar Code Sorter, and Bar Code Presort.

1979 to 1992 Worked IBM commercial as lead system programmer for 370 architecture systems delivering 3000 9370 computers to Sears and 30,000 9370 computers to State Farm. Worked Commercial Service Division in the field with customers likes of Citibank and Town of Patchogue and at Level 2 support desk for Operating System VSE.

Extensive experience with all IBM mainframe operating systems, utilities and applications.

Bachelor of Science in Physics from Boston University awarded in 05/01/1976.

Honors & Awards

Eagle Award from Lockheed Martin awarded in 2005. Individual contributor award granted at most once in career to about a dozen employees each year out of 50,000 employees. 
Technical Excellence Award from Lockheed Martin awarded in 2008. 
NOVA Team Award from Lockheed Martin awarded in 2006 to best program team that year.
